Who Is Kirk Franklin?

Kirk Franklin, born Kirk Dewayne Franklin on January 26, 1970, in Fort Worth, is the artist who brought Gospel music into the mainstream Top 40 world. Producer, choir director, songwriter, and visionary, he is widely recognized as the pioneer of modern “Gospel Hip-Hop.”

With 20 Grammy Awards, he is the most awarded male Gospel artist in history. Nicknamed “The Godfather of Urban Gospel,” Kirk Franklin has spent more than 30 years blending massive choirs, rap, R&B, and raw worship into a sound that changed Gospel music forever.
