New Poll Gives Lula a Stronger Edge in Brazil’s Presidential Race

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has widened his lead over Senator Flávio Bolsonaro in the latest opinion poll ahead of the country's October presidential election, signaling growing momentum for the incumbent as the campaign intensifies. 

According to the Genial/Quaest survey, Lula received 45% support in a simulated second-round runoff, while Flávio Bolsonaro, the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, polled at 37%. The results mark an increase in Lula's advantage compared with the previous survey, when he held a six-point lead.

In first-round voting intentions, Lula also maintained a comfortable lead with 40%, followed by Flávio Bolsonaro at 28%. Other potential candidates remained in single digits, highlighting the continued polarization between Brazil's two main political camps. 

The poll comes amid a series of political developments affecting both campaigns, including debates over Brazil's economy, international trade tensions, and ongoing scrutiny surrounding political figures from both the government and the opposition. Analysts say the race remains dynamic, but Lula currently appears to have strengthened his position with voters. 

Brazil's presidential election is scheduled for October. If no candidate secures more than 50% of the valid votes in the first round, the top two candidates will advance to a runoff election.
